Welcome to my blog! My name is Erin Wilson, a wife and mother, stay at home Mom and entrepreneur. Before I had my son I didn’t know the first thing about raising a child..what kind of momma would I be? I sought out advice and tips from other moms. While I received a lot of great advice from some great friends I was also surprised by the number of negative comments that caused me doubt and stress. I heard..

You wont believe how tired you will be

You will be back at work in 6 weeks – you can't stay home and be happy.

The list went on and on! Was it really going to be h*ll? Were any moms actually ENJOYING themselves? Well, yes..but I think they are too busy having fun and too polite to not spread all of their advice! That is why I am writing this blog..to share my resources, lessons learned and spread the word that being a Momma is actually pretty darn great! I hope you enjoy reading it. I got pregnant on our trip to Mexico for our 5^th anniversary. I was pretty sure that the test was going to come back positive when we got back and wanted to surprise my husband with a cool way of telling him. So I found an adorable onesie with Senor Frogs logo on it. Ok, yes it was a baby shirt with a bars logo on it but remember..we hadn’t had kids yet and it was a cool bar J

ANYWAY, that was the first purchase and I was hooked. My love affair for cool new baby gear had begun. Hip maternity clothes, diaper bags that rival my favorite purse, nursery décor. I feel a thrill when I go into my fav boutiques searching for the coolest new products.

When I find stuff that works well, makes my life easier AND looks cool I just have to tell the world. Well, now I can :) I have some favorites that I use all the time. I hope you will find them as awesome as I have!

My Hot Sling saved me!

My life as a momma would not be what it is today without my Hot Sling. Yup, I am THAT passionate about it! When I got my first sling Briggs was about 6 weeks old. Many of you may have experienced the “6 week awakening” that some newborns go through. You know..that moment when they need to be held and rocked A LOT. Well, my arms were about to fall off and my back was killing me. I didn’t mind holding him but my boy wanted movement! Well, when Samantha came over (2 hip moms.com) and showed me my new sling my first reaction was “You want me to fold my baby HOW?!” She calmly walked me through it and after a few bounces to settle B in I was hooked. So was he for that matter!

Now I have 4 patterns!

For the first 6 months of B’s life I woke up every morning, pulled on my uniform of jeans/simple long sleeve t (it was still winter/early spring) and pearls. Then I picked out the sling I would wear for the day. My fav is the pucci print because the design made me feel SO fab and we always got great compliments when we wore it!

Today we still use my HotSling every day. There is always one in my car or diaper bag for quick trips into the store or when B just needs a little extra snuggle. All the things they say about wearing your baby are true. Briggs is a confident little boy and we have an amazing bond. AND I was able to go on with my life. I could pick up the house, run errands without unfolding the stroller or lugging around the infant seat. ..Oh yeah, and there is nothing cuter than a little pumpkin peering out at the world in the safety of his sling.

Amazing things happen. Every day. If you only watch the news you may think it is not a world of basic goodness. That is not the world. People are generally good and small miracles happen every day. I like to share things that I have heard or experienced..feel free to add yours! Nice is when you are walking and the landscape crew cutting the grass along the road stops so you can pass without breathing their fumes. Nice is when the local Mexican restaurant gives your 10 month old son a bowl of black beans so you can enjoy a margarita with your husband and doesn’t even look upset when he then throws them all over the place. Even if it is a Friday night at 5:30 and they will be picking up those beans all night. (Thank you Anna's in Snoqualmie!) J

Divine Diaper Bag Diva-hood

Before I had my son I figured diaper bags were just that. A bag to throw all the stuff that people warned me I would be lugging around soon enough. My first bag was a Pottery Barn quilted velour diaper bag. It was cute and I pretty much wore it out but that was because I had not entered the world of divine diaper bag diva-hood. Yep, it’s a condition! See when I became a momma all that I recognized was different. My clothes didn’t fit the same, even my shoes didn’t fit and if they did they were all impractical heels. Discovering amazing diaper bags and awesome slings (read the last post for more on that rant – I mean rave J) helped me find that outgoing fashionista while still being practical and working with my new life. I mean, I have to carry diapers, bottles, bibs, changes of clothes, food, wallet and the other 5,000 things that make there way into your bag. So why not do it with a bag that made me feel awesome.

Think pinks, reds, blues, greens. Bright colors in a fun floral print. This bag was awesome and cheered me up just looking at it!

Adding all those colors worked perfectly with my simple “uniform” of jeans and simple shirts. My summer got brighter carrying it. Sound a little over the top? Well, you know when you are a sleep deprived momma whose hair was falling out after 9 months of amazingly thick growth perspective can sometimes be a bit skewed J AND it was an amazing bag.

I almost cried when I opened up on Mothers Day – my husband scored some serioius points that day!

Well, I almost cried the day I opened my Brighton. I REALLY cried the day I got my Born Out of Necessity! My MIL surprised me with it at our favorite local Boutique – Peanut Butter & Lili. It is beautiful. Blue (my new fav color since having a boy) and tan. It is beyond cool. I literally get stopped at the mall by people telling me how great it is. Seriously! The leather is so soft and gets even softer. The inside has plenty of room for my diapees and all the other necessities. There is even a cooler/warmer pouch that will apparently keep food at the right temp for a few hours though I just use it right now as a place to store my extra lipstick. I LOVE the 2 outside end pouches because one will hold my wallet AND phone and the other a jar of food, bib and spoon. They are deceptively big!

Nice is Valet Parking when you really need it

My son fell and broke his leg this weekend. It was a small break and after the cast was on he has had no complaints. In fact, I have been more of a wreck than he has! Childrens' hospital in Seattle has valet parking. It was so nice to not worry about where to park. While this may seem small...when you are a worried momma focusing on your child even the simplest tasks lifted from you helps.

Ok, yes it is my company and I am shamelessly plugging it but I wouldn’t have even launched the line if I didn’t LOVE them and think they were the greatest! We have 6 designs right now with more in the design phase! I started Lots 2 Say Baby last Easter when my son was decked out in head to toe Easter – yes, he even had bunny ears! Problem was he also had an orange pacifier in his mouth. Well sure this wasn’t a problem up there with world peace and stuff but I thought..why are there no really great looking pacifiers for all occasions? Everything was a bit too froofie (my new favorite made up adjective!) or candy sweet. So I researched the pacifier world and found a great manufacturer here in the US. Then I started designing. My goal is to always have fun sayings that are well designed and fun to wear. Oh, and the colors have to be bright – even the pastels

Baby Legs - B’s favorite every day accessory!

Baby Legs are my new obsession and I don't see an end in site! I can't believe I waited 10 months of Briggs' life until discovering them! Now that the weather is getting cooler I decided to try them out and they are awesome! Why? Very Simply: 1. they keep the "gap" warm. You know, when you put your baby in the car seat and their pants hike up just a bit. That space of bare skin showing is protected. 2. The "gap" is not just warm..it is CUTE! B's outfits look even better with his stripes or flames or pirates peeking out. 3. Socks don't come off. I never knew my car would be come such a sock collector! Briggs LOVES to take off his socks and throw them across the back seat. The Baby Legs secure them so he can't get them off and his toes stay warm. Well, at least they stay on a lot longer than without them. He is a persistent kid so on long car rides all bets are off! 4. Nap times are a cozy again! Who likes to sleep in their jeans?! When Briggs wears his BL's I can just slip off his jeans and his legs stay cozy. When he gets up it is easy to change his diaper and slide his pants. This may sound like a fairly good thing but let me tell you..it is HUGE when you have a squirmy wormy of a boy! 5. Did I mention they are so beyond cute and collecting all the designs are beyond fun and addictive! Ok, so now you need to get in the car or click on over to BL's site and get your first pair. Diapees and Wipees

These are my life saver – ok well maybe not LIFE saver but I can tell you that I have thought many times in the last 10 months that my diapees and wipees were awesome! Picture this. You are walking through a restaurant – one of those that you used to go to before you had a baby and could have a few drinks over a long Saturday afternoon lunch with the girls..and now you are back because you refuse to change every part of your life and you want to be one of “those” moms. You know..the ones that manage to still have a semblance of their old selves while being a stunning example of momma hood. Anyway, you get the picture. J Now back to my story. Here I was, walking through the restaurant with my adoreable baby in my arms and a diaper that only I could smell. Instead of juggling a diaper bag and my baby I just grab the Diapees and Wipees and my trusty BO2N changing pad and saunter across the room.
Oh yeah, and when I am not sauntering..yes I will admit I don’t spend my days lunching J They are a fab way of keeping my diapers from getting that puffy scrunched thing happening and I never have to fish for diapers and the wipes case.

That is what I love about us Moms..we are great at figuring out an answer to any problem! I have been using a Sippi Grip now for almost a month and it is now a staple in our diaper bag! B actually loves that he can still throw his cup and not lose it - yep the game goes on for the whole car ride! Travel advice - 20 flights and counting.

I am BACK! I don't know HOW an entire month has gone by with out a peep from me. I mean..I have lots to say (always! :) ) but just the time factor was a bit lacking. I guess I better get used to it because I only think it gets crazier! The last month has been SO much fun. I decided to take the month off from the business and really focus on making Briggs' Christmas a lot of fun AND relaxing. I was pretty good about not getting too overwhelmed..at least until the days running up until our vacation. Then all bets were off! We headed to DC and then to Disney World and for some reason I just couldn't get my sleep deprived head wrapped around packing for two very different climates in one trip let alone one suitcase! SO 5 suitcases later and 3 carry ons we were headed to the airport. Briggs was an absolute peach. He has now been on 20 flights this year so we have discovered a few really key points. 1. Chill out..things are going to happen. Babies cry, poop, puke and cry..(worth mentioning twice!) Get over it. The vast majority of people actually don't mind it. They are either Moms who frankly can tune the whole thing out after years of their own experience or business traveleres who either like the reminder of the family they miss at home OR have those nifty BOSE earphones that block out sound all around them. You are covered either way. 2. Bring ear plugs. For those folks who don't fit either of the above descriptions there are always ear plugs. We always travel with at least 10 pairs to offer to anyone in our vicinity. People rarely take you up on it..but they are so touched that you offered that they immeidiatly forgive any fussiness and become your new best friend. People like it when you remember what it was like before life became all about our little ones. The appreciate the gesture immensely. 3. We typically have the aisle and middle seats when travelling. The poor guy at the window is stuck. He can't get up when B is sleeping (though one obvious mountain climber guy actually climbed OVER us on Tuesday!) He is put through all sorts of torture from crying to hands in his orange juice (another high moment from this recent trip). For pete's sake..BUY THE GUY A DRINK! We always offer it and again people really appreciate it. Also, if the flight has been long and hard..they will take you up on it. If they don't drink..offer to get them a DVD player that the airlines often rent or a bite to eat. The point is to spread a little love. Trust me it works. 4. Chill out. Ok, this is the same as #1 but I have to tell you that 2 and 3 don't work if you are uptight or even worse..fake. People are always happy to help if you are nice and show them a little respect in return. 5. Lines are for singletons. Don't quote me on this because all airports are different BUT I can tell you that we never wait in customs or security lines. Scope the situation and see if they have a wheel chair line or head to the first class line. We have done both and gone through just fine. The key is to be nice and act like you have done it a million times. It does get easier when you actually HAVE done it a lot but just put a big smile on and be genuine. People want to help you. The only exception I have found in a whole year of travelling with B is orlando. I guess they figure that everyone is with kids and you should just get in line..so we did and it was fine. Well, that is it for now. It is just after 6am and B has gone down for his nap. Yep, the last thing you have to know is that it typically takes 1 day per time zone to get the kids back on track. B typically wakes up at 7am. Yesterday it was 4am (7am EST) and today was 5am so there is progress. Just be patient and know it will all be over in a few days. It took me 4 trips to learn this! Starting the year right with Baby Day Luxe!

To kick off 2008 Lots 2 Say Baby was lucky enough to be able to take part in "Baby Day Luxe" at the Providence Regina House in Seattle. This Food and Clothing Bank serves their community every week by providing them much needed food and clothing. Carol over at Baby Chaleco came up with the great idea of getting boutique children's companies to donate their products and give this community some fantastic products! I can tell you that I had a blast! Sari Crevin (Sippi Grip) and I helped parents pick out donated clothing and had a chance to meet all the adorable babies and their parents. I also had the chance to meet Jennifer from Satsuma Designs. It is always so much fun to meet other wonderful women following their dreams ~especially at such a great event! Baby Day Luxe: A Charitable Twist on a Growing Trend

Seattle, WA In Hollywood, the start of the year means the Golden Globes, and along with them, the glamorous giveaway parties where celebrity and commerce intersect, as famous people are given free luxury goods in a quest for publicity. Here in the Pacific Northwest, a group of baby-product companies plans to start 2008 with a heartwarming twist on one aspect of this trend: the parties for rich and famous parents to give away luxury baby products that the PR-pro party organizers hope will end up on magazine covers.

In Seattle on Jan. 5, 2008, there will be a big party. Just like in Hollywood, lots of parents will show up with their adorable babies, and lots of luxury baby goods will be given away. But in this case, the recipients will be the clients of the Providence Regina House food and clothing bank in the South Park neighborhood.

The party will start early, at 9:30 am, and the doors will stay open through noon. Along with balloons, music, and of course, luxury baby products, essentials such as diapers, formula, and food will also be given away. The idea is to provide an extra treat for babies that get too few of them.

It all started when Paige Collins, the manager of the Providence Regina House, talked to her neighbor Carol Schiller, the founder of Baby Chaleco, about Baby Day.

³Our regular Baby Day is held the first Saturday of each month to benefit the clients of the Providence Regina House community Clothing and Food bank.

This event is well known in the community and many, many families come to receive packages of baby food, formula, diapers and clothing. Normally, the items are donated through community collections or purchased with funds raised by the Providence Regina House,² explains Collins.

Schiller, who had recently been invited to participate in the baby giveaway suite at the Golden Globe awards in Hollywood, was inspired by the coincidence.

³It's no secret that celebrities can well afford to buy whatever their babies need. I immediately thought, how much better to be part of a giveaway bash for families in need, rather than for celebrities,² recalls Schiller.

Schiller and Collins decided to create Baby Day Luxe: a fancier version of the regular Baby Day. Pacific Northwest companies will donate products with a normally unaffordable bit of luxury to babies whose families struggle just to get by.

Schiller used her contacts in the baby business to reach out to other local manufacturers, and the list of enthusiastic contributors quickly grew.

Jennifer Porter, co-founder of Satsuma Designs explains, ³We were thrilled when Carol approached us. Many of us have seen the sheer volume of Œproduct¹ that companies are willing to bestow on celebrities. Baby Day Luxe gives us a chance to put Œproduct¹ into deserving hands.²

Ultimately, the list of contributing companies reached eight:

Baby Chaleco (bibs); Baby Star (apparel and accessories); Egg Press (custom printing); Lots 2 Say - Baby (pacifiers); Picaflor (knit apparel); Satsuma Designs (organic blankets); See Kai Run (footwear); Sippigrip (sippy cup holders).

With such a strong start, Collins and Schiller hope to turn Baby Day Luxe into an annual event. Considering the enthusiastic response of current participants, that looks like a good bet.

Cause Haun, Owner of See Kai Run comments, ³I was excited to have an opportunity to create excitement and buzz for a more satisfying event. I feel many more will participate as Baby Day Luxe gains exposure.²

Providence Regina House, a ministry of Providence Health and Services, has been serving those in need in the Seattle area since 1963. The roots of this ministry began as a response by Sister Mary Regina Bomber and the Sisters of Providence to the poor who sought food by knocking at the kitchen door of Providence Seattle Medical Center in the Central district. Originally known as the 'House of the Poor,' the name was changed upon Sister Regina's death to honor her great work and dedication.

It’s Snowing!

Ok, this is not a product review or a nugget of advice that I feel compelled to share. Just a bit of insight in to our lives here at Lots 2 Say.. It is snowing outside which is always a nice change from the rain here in Seattle! The gentle hum of our house is not so gentle to any "non momma" ears. The dryer is running, Baby Einstein is on in the background, and Briggs is carrying on a conversation with the dog..who is trying to ignore us all. Briggs is playing with the baby gate (he is always so much happier with the simple things than the toys!) and I am tapping away at my computer as I prepare to launch our new sayings. This business is such a happy change from my days in corporate america. We aren't going to have to deal with traffic in the snow - just maybe to go for a walk if it stops for a bit. I can laugh with Briggs while formatting pictures of our new binks. Snack breaks are no longer a rushed double latte but "Cheddar Bunnies" and milk. Office politics are more about "sweety keep your socks ON" vs. who did what at Happy Hour last night. It is wonderful. So, thank you to everyone who continues to support our family in this adventure. You have given me the best blessing in the world. The chance to be with my son, run my home and start our dream. Now..let's go play in the snow!

Ok. NOW I get it - at least a little bit more! I have just run into another one of those moments in life when I know that Mommahood has somehow changed my very molecular being. My son..threw up for the first time yesterday..EVERYWHERE! Without even flinching or missing a beat I scooped him up in my arms to comfort him, completely ignoring the fact that I was now also COVERED in throw up. WHAT?! I didn't see that coming! The first site of someone getting sick and I ran for the next room! But to be honest it makes me happy because I never understood it when people would tell me "your life will change..but for the better" I didn't get it. Now I do..a little bit more. Where has the month gone?!

Nope I haven't officially dropped off the planet but it sure feels like it! I have been in the black hole of space and time known as "Briggs is sick and is permanently attached to my arms". I have to say that I actually don't mind it when he is a bit clingy because he has always been so independent that it is nice to have the extra hugs and cuddles with him. With that said, I am ready to start things back to normal ..whatever that is :) My first step is an actual NIGHT OUT with a girl friend! I am headed to a Mom's Night out event in my neighborhood and can hardly wait. It is a group of Moms who all have sons and I am looking forward to getting to know them. My friend Janet will be there..who I have basically known forever but never get to see. It has been months since I have gone out with friends - sans baby. As I write this I have to laugh at myself a little. In fact, I am laughing a bit at my friend AND I. See, it is a miracle we are even friends because when we met - and until the last year or so - we didn't really have a lot of GIRL friends. In fact, I am not sure we even LIKED other girls. Let alone SAHM's that went to pedi party's and card making events. See, other girls just were not really our speed..we were in sales (mostly men), were not sure we would ever have kids, and didn't really understand people who DID have kids! So, we worked a lot and then Happy Houred after with our co-workers and significant others. Not a lot of gals around. Now, here we are. Momma's of boys. Stay at home Moms who go to play dates and "mom's night out events"...and it couldnt fit better! In fact, I would never have imagined just how right this new path for me is. Funny how life turns out. I have learned just how important having other women in your life is. How valuable honest and caring relationships can lift you up, and how much of a relief it is to know you are not alone in your adventures of every day momma-hood! So go reach out to your girlfriend you have not called recently and make a date to grab a glass or wine or work out together..do it NOW..it will feel great! Have an amazing day! Erin Chief Momma

Anyone who has known me for longer than 3 years knows just how shocking of a statement this is for me to make! Football!? "I don't watch football and I certainly don't understand the rule of the ridiculous game!" was my retort any time anyone asked if I had seen the game. In fact, when the Steelers won 3 years ago and I said "Ohh, that is nice..I mean..someone has to win right?!" my husband pretty much freaked :) But that changed when I got pregnant. We were laying low at home a lot more than usual and I figured that if I could just give it one season to try and figure out the game that my husband would not only be in heaven but it might be a good way for our family to spend time together. And - it - WORKED! I was hooked (well, maybe it took a few games to learn what the heck was going on) but THEN I was hooked. It wasn't just the game. It was the sitting on the couch together, routing for something together. I love the screaming and the cheering. I love the whole culture of it all. So SuperBowl is the culmination of an entire season's cheering and nail biting moments and yesterday's game was no disappointment. The 4th quarter had us hootin and hollerin so loud I am sure the neighbors heard us 4 doors down..that is if they had not been making so much noise themselves! But now it is over (except the Pro Bowl of course) and I have to admit that I am a bit sad to see it end. No more Sundays in front of the TV as life starts up again for both weekend days. We will have errands to run and other commitments that for months have been pushed aside. I take solace in knowing that next fall it will all begin again..our favorite family season..football. Valentines Day - Adventure #4387 in our home

I am convinced that you can still have Valentines Day without pulling out the glue stick, child safe scissors, and construction paper. Of course, if you looked through all of the parenting magazines we are bombarded with (yes..I know YOU get them too!) it would be hard to believe such a statement! I mean WHAT IS LIFE without hand constructed placemats and cupcakes made in the shape of hearts. Umm..a lot less stressful! NOW don't get me wrong. I am not immune from all of this craziness. That first paragraph was actually something pretty close to what we heard in MOPS this week (while making a Valentines craft..go figure) In fact I do actually like it as long as I don't let myself get too worked up about it and forget to have fun. Trust me..I was right at the edge yesterday when I tried all day to get the perfect picture of Briggs decked out in his best Valentines outfit. Actually, there were 2 outfits. The first - his "all day" outfit was a red plaid shirt with a tshirt over it that said "Grandma's Valentine" Perfect to send out as an ecard to his grandparents! The second outfit..now try to keep it together as you read this..was a yellow bumble bee costume (get it!? we call him B). I could just picture the card to all of our friends and family that with the caption "Bee Mine"! I had it planned..I had all my props laid out the day before. Cookies, 2 balloons, a box of chocolate. I was going to use his red PBK Anywhere Chair as the back drop. I could hear the grandparents collectively swoon when they opened their emails. THEN REALITY SET IN Briggs ate the cookie (so did the dog)-without a bib so I was now down 1 prop and the shirt was covered in schmootz. Hmm..ok well at least lets get a shot..I figured i could always write a funny caption to explain what happened. Grandparents love that stuff anyway. BUT THEN REALITY SET IN AGAIN B didn't want to sit in the chair. He wanted to hold the camera that was in my hands and cried when I didn't let him. Again, I kept snapping out of sheer desperation. I was starting to sweat now. Never a quitter I kept on. I put B in the Bee costume.. He actually didn't mind the polyester contraption too much..until I put the hood on. I am not sure if it was the fact that he was overheated in 2 min flat..or that deep down he knew that his girlfriend 16 years from now would google him and find this picture. Either way, he was not posing. I snapped what I could..vowing to try again later. Wishing that I could at least have gotten a picture of him walking with the stinger on the back waving back and forth but alas..this is life. It was getting late, I was a wreck of now frizzy hair and schmeared makeup and had to be ready in 15 min for an actual date with my husband (heaven btw). I cried uncle. At least we have the memories. Oh well.. There is always St. Patricks Day :) Sock off..props being eatin, this photo shoot is not looking promising I am so outta here MOM!!! Seriously?! You have me in a BEE COSTUME Yes, those are incredibly dorky dilly boppers on my head..and I am proud to wear them!

Ok, I admit I am an occasional Oprah watcher. I never seem to be caught up on my Tivo so I watch out for the shows I JUST HAVE TO SEE. Yesterdays was IT! The Shlumpadinka transformation show. I have somewhere along the way become a shlumpadinka! OMG! Take this quiz and see if you have too. Can your jeans actually be categorized as "acid washed"? - uh oh. AND they are either too short or too long. Ugh! I need to find a perfect pair of jeans. Well, as a mom and entrepenuer my roles often collide. B just learned to help me crinkle tissue to pack the boxes going out today -yeah! AND while I turned to print shipping labels..learned to color on the boxes as well!
